2024 Pop Culture Review

So towards the end of 2023 I did a recap of my favorite movies, songs, and albums of the year, and figured it made sense to do the same for 2024 now…

Obligatory “some of these artists are questionable people,” etc. Also most of the same rules from last year still apply (only one song per album and so on).

With that out of the way, here we go:

TOP 10 FILMS

1.Dune: Part Two

2.Alien: Romulus

3.Furiosa: A Mad Max Saga

4.Inside Out 2

5.South Park: The End of Obesity

6.Civil War

7.Young Woman and the Sea

8.Kingdom of the Planet of the Apes

9.The Fall Guy (either version)

10.Drive-Away Dolls

TOP 10 SONGS

1.Jack White - “Bombing Out”

2.Linkin Park - “Heavy Is the Crown”

3.Linkin Park - “Friendly Fire”

4.Lenny Kravitz - “Blue Electric Light”

5.Jerry Cantrell - “I Want Blood”

6.U2 - “Picture of You (X+W)”

7.South Arcade - “How 2 Get Away with Murder”

8.Pearl Jam - “Dark Matter”

9.Michael Schenker Group - “Love to Love”

10.Slash - “Papa Was a Rolling Stone”

TOP 3 ALBUMS

GOLD: Linkin Park - From Zero

SILVER: Jack White - No Name

BRONZE: The Smashing Pumpkins - Aghori Mhori Mei

There you have it! I guess it says a lot that two of my favorite songs this year were actually recorded many years ago and only just released now (“Friendly Fire” and “Picture of You”), and another two were covers (“Love to Love” and “Papa Was a Rolling Stone”). Doesn’t help that the entire list is rock this time around. That said, I did enjoy the new albums from Billie Eilish and Taylor Swift. In fact, “The Diner” and “Down Bad” both almost made the cut. As far as hip-hop goes, “Bigger in Texas” by Megan thee Stallion has become a new guilty pleasure of mine, and Kendrick Lamar’s “Not Like Us” is now one of the best diss tracks of all-time, as far as I’m concerned…

        Welp, here’s to another year!

Peace!
