So last year I did posts for my favorite albums of the last 60 years, my top 5 films from 1977-2022, and my top 10 favorite songs from 1967-2022. Now that 2023 is almost over, I figured it only made sense to keep the tradition going and do it all again for this year. Same rules still apply (only one song per album not counting b-sides, etc.), except I’m getting rid of the “only one film per franchise can be #1” rule from this point onward. And even though I’ve said this before, just to clarify, I know some of these artists are shitty people in real life, but I still like their art. It is what it is.
…Well, here you go:
TOP 5 FILMS
1.Oppenheimer
2.Mission: Impossible - Dead Reckoning
3.Guardians of the Galaxy, Vol. 3
4.John Wick: Chapter 4
5.Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse
TOP 10 SONGS
1.The Orwells - “Friendly Fire (Alternate Version)”
2.The Orwells - “Bar Fly”
3.Linkin Park - “More the Victim”
4.Royal Blood - “Supermodel Avalanches”
5.Royal Blood - “Shiner in the Dark”
6.Dua Lipa - “Dance the Night”
7.Dua Lipa - “Houdini”
8.Lenny Kravitz - “TK421”
9.Guns N’ Roses - “Perhaps”
10.Guns N’ Roses - “The General”
BEST ALBUM
Metallica - 72 Seasons
Congrats to Metallica for topping the albums list for the first time since 1988 (and fifth time overall). Also congrats to Lenny Kravitz for finally making onto one of these lists for the first time ever (his daughter Zoe technically made last year’s songs list as a co-writer of Taylor Swift’s “Lavender Haze”). Also, I must admit that “Area Codes” by Kaliii almost made the song list for this year too…
…Well, that’s just about gonna do it for me.
Peace!
